Police offers believe the boy is no more than a week old.

A baby boy was found alive in a chest of drawers in Chicago.

Reports confirmed that the baby was discovered in a discarded piece of furniture down an alleyway in the Montclare neighborhood.

A passerby discovered the infant in the chest of drawers and alerted emergency services on Tuesday, August 10.

A spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department said they were alerted at 8 am.

The team transported the baby boy to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where he is in a good and stable condition.

It is believed the baby boy is less than a week old.

“It’s a good thing somebody came by. It’s hot out there, it could’ve ended differently, but it’s all seemingly worked out.”

Police are urging anyone with information about the newborn’s identity to contact them.

It is understood a woman who was recycling found the baby. She told NBC Chicago, “I found him that is greatest thing. Every time I think about the little details, it just makes me mad.”

“I’m just gonna focus on the miracle that I was there, and that everybody showed up on time because I was shaking. I was shaking so bad.”

She explained that she placed her hand on the newborn’s foot to make sure he was still moving and alive.

According to Illinois’ Safe Haven law, a parent can relinquish their baby if they’re 30 days old or younger to emergency services, including hospitals or police stations. The law prevents them from legal reprecussions.

However, if the baby has been endangered, then the birth parent could face being arrested.
