A 12-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl have tragically died following a "major incident" off East Beach in Bournemouth, England.
Police confirmed a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following the tragedy. He was in the water at the time of the incident but has since been released from police custody.
The incident happened at around 4 pm on Wednesday, May 31st.
Police confirmed both children did not know one another.
They are offering professional support to their families during this heartbreaking time.
According to reports,
Dorset Police arrived at the beach after paramedics contacted them about an incident. Paramedics helped 10 people out of the water, but the two children later died from their injuries in hospital. They suffered critical injuries.
Dorset Police issued an update after arresting a man in his 40s on Thursday, June 1st.
They confirmed the suspect has been released, but their investigation is ongoing.
Detective Chief Superintendent Neil Corrigan, said they're doing "all we can to support their families."
The police investigation is in the early stages but the public has been asked not to speculate.
"Early investigation indicates that there was no physical contact between a vessel and any swimmers at the time of the incident."
