Gardaí launch urgent appeal after boy (9) is killed in hit-and-run

The accident occurred in Bundoran, Co. Donegal.

Gardaí have launched an urgent investigation after a nine-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run in Donegal.

The young child sadly passed away after they were hit by a vehicle on Atlantic Way in Bundoran.

The heartbreaking incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday, September 23rd.

Gardaí stated:

“Shortly after 9:20 pm, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Atlantic Way, Bundoran. The pedestrian, a boy aged 9 years, was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.

Gardaí confirmed, “The vehicle involved in the collision failed to remain at the scene.”

The scene has been preserved for examination and traffic diversions are in place.

The local Coroner and office of the State Pathologist have also been notified.

The boy’s body has been removed to the mortuary at Sligo Hospital. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Gardaí are urging the driver of the vehicle to come forward.

They have also asked witnesses to make video footage available to them. They’re particularly interested in footage from Atlantic Way and Sea Road and the general area.
