A foster mum has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after she killed the baby she hoped to adopt.
Laura Castle was found guilty of killing the 13-month-old infant after he was placed in her care.
Leiland-James Corkill was fostered by Castle and her husband in August 2020.
However, the infant was found unresponsive at their home in Cumbria in January 2021, just months after he was fostered.
When paramedics were called to the house, the infant was floppy and unconscious.
He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead the next day.
It is believed the 13-month-old suffered a head injury. His heart also stopped beating shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Castle pleaded guilty to manslaughter but admitted she just shook the baby to stop him from crying.
However, the mum had sent multiple messages to her partner about how much she disliked the infant.
She texted her husband, "I honestly really don’t like him lately, he's an absolute moaning winge bag and I totally regret doing this."
Prior to the infant's death, social workers expressed concerns about Castle and even said she was 'lazy'.
The court said Castle was an "unfit" foster mother and an abusive person.
The boy's birth mother believed he would have been safe with a new family.
However, his life was cut short by Castle.
She will serve 18 years in prison for killing the infant.
