“Sadly missed by her heartbroken husband”
The woman who died after her car entered the River Lee at Kennedy Quay has been named.
The mum has been named locally as Gillian Daly. She was from Marlborough in Douglas.
Her two sons managed to escape from the car when it entered the water on Friday, June 3rd.
It is believed passersby helped the two boys out of the water.
However, it was too late to save Gillian.
Her body has since been removed from the water.
Gillian’s sons, aged 10 and 12, were taken to Cork University Hospital. Both boys were treated for shock, but have since been released into the care of a family member.
Gardaí are treating the incident as a tragic accident.
They’re hoping to speak with both of her sons to understand what happened.
Gardaí hope the boys can piece together what happened before the car entered the water.
They have also asked witnesses to come forward. They’re particularly interested in speaking to anyone with footage of the accident.
