One person lodged 12,272 noise complaints with Dublin Airport last year

Laura Cunningham

The individual made 34 complaints per day

One person is responsible for nine in 10 of all the complaints made about noise to Dublin airport last year.

The complainant made 12,272 reports (an average of 34 per day) to the DAA in 2021, making them personally responsible for raising the total complaints received from 1,500 a year to 13,569.

The individual’s complaints made up 90% of all complaints lodged last year and focussed on noise from aircraft taking off and landing at the airport.

The person, who is said to live in Ongar in north-west Dublin, also made roughly half that number of complaints in 2020.

While a spokesperson from the DAA spokesperson declined to comment on the specific complaints, they said the operators were “committed to working with the communities around the airport on issues such as aircraft noise.”
