Oti Mabuse quits Strictly Come Dancing after 7 years

Kat O'Connor

Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse is leaving the show.

The professional dancer announced the news in an emotional statement this morning.

After dancing on the show for 7 years, Oti is saying goodbye to Strictly.

She explained that it was not an easy decision to make.

She wrote: “I have been part of the most amazing TV show, Strictly Come Dancing for the past seven years and it has been an incredible time.

“I can’t put into words how difficult this decision has been, but I have decided not to return for the next series.”

Oti said the cast and crew have become a family to her, which makes leaving even harder.

“I’m honestly so grateful to The BBC and will always remember that Strictly and BBC brought me to the UK – which I now call home and I have learned and grown so much.”

Oti said dancing will always be her first love, no matter what.

She promised to always “keep dancing” in the emotional post.

“I will never forget my amazing Strictly experience!” she added.

Oti quickly became one of the most beloved professional dancers on the show. She has won Strictly Come Dancing twice during her time on the show. First with Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher and most recently with comedian Bill Bailey.

She recently became a judge on Dancing On Ice.

The Strictly Come Dancing team said “She leaves a dazzling legacy behind her, as the only professional dancer to lift the Glitterball Trophy in two consecutive years.”

“We couldn’t be prouder of Oti and what she has achieved.”

“She will always be at the very heart of our Strictly family and we wish her every success in her already bright future.”

Strictly just won’t be the same without Oti.
