Plans are in motion to turn College Green into a pedestrianised plaza.

A five day hearing into the proposal in Dublin began this week, starting with Dublin City Council laying out the plans for the space. According to Luke Byrne writing for the Independent.ie, officials indicated the plan is to reclaim College Green as a "preeminent public space for Dublin". This space hopes to build a sense of community and become a practical place which is versatile to hold events and concerts but at the same time, provide a space people can make use of everyday. Winter ice-skating rinks and summer beach parties were amongst the plans suggested for the new space throughout the year. If this project gets the green light, the area will be fully pedestrianised and a two lane cycle track will be put in place, vehicles will no longer be able to travel through college green and bus routes would be diverted. This however has worried many local businesses located within the centre of town, who believe making college green a pedestrianised plaza will discourage people from venturing into the city centre.
