A couple from Derbyshire in the UK is warning other parents of the dangers of lift-up beds after their son’s neck became stuck in a loop on theirs.
According to BBC News, Charlotte Hames and Anthony Ancliff’s 2-year-old had stopped breathing and was unresponsive after being lifted up by the bed.
Charlotte found her son, Buddy George, hanging from the loop on Monday. It seems he managed to trigger the lifting process of the ottoman-style hydraulic bed and his weight wasn’t enough to stop it.
His mum tried to revive him before he was rushed to hospital. Thankfully, she discovered him in time and he has made a full recovery.
She
told BBC News: "I was in the bathroom and thought Buddy had gone quiet so I shouted up to him but got no response.
"I had a gut instinct something was wrong so rushed to our bedroom where he'd been playing and found him hanging by his neck from the bed's lifting loop.
"He was blue in the face and not breathing - I was frantic."
An investigation has since been launched and Derbyshire County Council is speaking to the Bed Federation in relation to suspending similar products and having the loops on them removed.
