Prepare for traffic delays as the second day of Irish Rail strikes go ahead

Wrap up and leave early!

Olivia Hayes

We’d leave a little bit earlier than usual this morning.

The second day of Irish Rail strikes are going ahead this morning, and commuters are to expect some delays on Irish roads.

This will be the second of five planned 24 hour strikes over the pay row in the company.

The industrial action will affect both DART and commuter services, which will mean about 150,000 people will be put out and have to find alternative routes to travel to work, school or college.

And as seen with previous strikes, most of the city will be at a standstill as an extra 150,000 commuters will be traveling by taxi, bus or Luas.

Irish Rail staff have not had a pay rise since 2008 and are looking for a 11.25 percent increase over the next three years – no strings attached.

Irish Rail say it cannot meet the wage demand.
