Prince William On Choosing Daddy Duties Over Royal Ones

Katie Mythen-Lynch

He’s a dad of two young children, but that hasn’t stopped Prince William’s detractors from calling his work ethic into question of late.

The Duke of Cambridge, who works 80 hours a month as an air ambulance pilot, has scaled back his royal engagements a little to make more time for his growing family.

Addressing the press accusations that he is work-shy and ducking out of his royal responsibilities in an interview with the BBC’s royal correspondent, Nicholas Witchell, Wills set the record straight:

“I’m concentrating very much on my role as a father,” said the dad of two year-old Prince George and Princess Charlotte, almost 12 months.

“I’m a new father and I take my duties and my responsibilities to my family very seriously and I want to bring my children up as good people.”

“I find the air ambulance role very important to me. It’s serving the community, working alongside extremely good professionals in the medical profession and then there’s my royal responsibilities which I still keep going.”

“But if I can’t give my time to my children as well, I worry about their future.”

Referring to the pressure that is likely to be placed on Prince George, who is third in line to the British throne, William continued:

“There will be a time and a place to bring George up and understand how he fits in the world, but right now it’s just a case of keeping a secure, stable environment around him and showing him as much love as I can as a father.”

We salute Prince William for making a stand.
