Duchess Kate’s remedies for severe morning sickness are so key

Louise Carroll

A while back, Prince William attended a reception in London celebrating the Metropolitan and City Police Orphans Fund.

The charity – of which William is a patron – offers support to the family and children of officers who worked with the Metropolitan Police and the City of London Police if officers have died or are unable to work.

One woman who the charity helped is 98-year-old Iris Orrell who was cared for by the charity from 1926 to 1933.

Anyway, the two got talking and Iris mentioned that like the Duchess of Cambridge, she too suffered from the severe morning sickness, hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) and was told by her doctor that “dry biscuits” would do the trick to ease the symptoms.

The conversation went on and it turns out Kate tried munching on something similar. None other than ginger biscuits!

William said, “Ginger biscuits… But there’s not much ginger can do to stop that [symptoms] – we’ve done all that.”

Who would have thought?

Kate Middleton's secret

With Kensington Palace having announced Kate’s pregnancy on 4 September, it’s expected Kate will give birth around March next year. Having said that however, when William was speaking to a midwife during his visit to the Spitafields Crypt Trust, he said,

“All the best with the midwifery, I may see you sooner than you think.”

In relation to hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), it affects about 1 percent of pregnant women and is an extreme form of pregnancy sickness. Key methods of managing the condition include lots of rest, avoiding anything that makes you nauseous and ensuring you are getting enough fluids. Any other healthy individual coping strategies that women themselves find to ease the severity of it, is encouraged.

Who knows, maybe something like ginger biscuits!
