“Both families are delighted with the news.”

Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are expecting their first child together.

Sharing a photo of the couple on their wedding day, Buckingham Palace announced the news this morning.

“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year,” reads a statement.

“The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”

Beatrice and Eduardo married last summer in a secret ceremony at All Saints Chapel, Windsor Great Park.

Only close family members attended the event due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The couple had cancelled their initial plans for a larger wedding earlier that year.

A spokesperson for the couple told PEOPLE magazine at the time: “There are no plans to switch venues or hold a bigger wedding.”

“They aren’t even thinking about their wedding at this time. There will come a time to rearrange, but that’s not yet.”

Beatrice and Edoardo became engaged in September 2019 during a break in Italy.

“We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement. We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together, and can’t wait to be married,” they said at the time.

“We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”
