Real Women Speak Out About The Bullsh*t They Deal With At Work

Sharyn Hayden

In celebration of International Women’s Day, advertising agency TBWA produced this powerful video which highlights some of the issues facing women who work within their own industry.

Cleverly, they asked female employees who worked in advertising to give them some quotes about the challenges they face, in working what is traditionally seen as a ‘Man’s Game’.. but asked their male counterparts to read them aloud to camera.

What results is a poignant message that all still is not well for many women in the workplace in 2016, and it is very interesting to see the discomfort that some of the male readers feel when they realise what is being said.

The campaign, called ‘Take The Lead 20/20’ is garnering a lot of positive praise, as the underlying message that ‘Women’s Issues Are Everyone’s Issues’ speaks volumes to all those in support of more balanced roles in leadership at the workplace for both men and women.

Some of the quotes from the piece are as follows:

‘If I don’t laugh at their jokes, I’m being too sensitive’

‘When I told my former boss I was going to have a baby, he said “But your career was going so well”‘

‘Having a kid hurts my career’

‘Why do I have to pretend to be tough, instead of kind?’

‘People say they don’t care that I have to leave to take care of my family, but I know they do’
