Remember the World’s first septuplets? Here’s what they look like now…

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Kenny and Bobbi McCaughey’s four sons and three daughters made history when they arrived on November 19, 1997.

The World’s first known set of surviving septuplets defied all odds to be delivered in Des Moines, Iowa after their parents declined ‘selective reduction’, choosing to put the pregnancy ‘in God’s hands’ after fertility treatment resulted in a multiple pregnancy.

While their childhood was a whirlwind (the family graced the cover of Time magazine and President Bill Clinton called to congratulate them – “… we had complete strangers come around to the back door, knock, and ask if they could hold a baby.” Bobbi remembers) the septuplets and their older sister Mikayla Mari have remained out of the spotlight for most of their lives, but recently appeared on TODAY’s Where Are They Now? series… to mark their 18th birthday.

Speaking about his decision to keep Kenny Jr., Alexis, Natalie, Kelsey, Nathan, Brandon and Joel out of the spotlight as much as possible, dad Kenny said: “We wanted to be a normal family,”

“That’s the best way to raise a family is just the normal, everyday things.”

With the septuplets preparing to head off to college, mum Bobbi says the years ‘have flown by’:

‘There’s been so many things that have happened.

‘The memories, the joy, the heartaches that happened.

‘It’s what has guided us to where we are today, and it’s very special.’
