A lot more women than you might think admit to being a ‘crier’

We're not too sure about this... but then again, we never really count how many times we shed a tear. According to research, women cry on average 6 times a month, with it racking up to 72 times per year. In comparison, lads only cry three times per month. The study, conducted by eye drop company Hycosan Fresh, found that while women cry more, men are less embarrassed about it. Four out of ten men claimed that they wouldn’t be bothered about crying in public, which is compared to just a third of women. Psychologist Emma Kenny, who took part in the study, said: “While women are stereotypically associated with crying, the results of this study actually show that men are now feeling that it's acceptable to show their emotions and feel crying is acceptable. “While it is often suggested that women cry without issue, the results actually suggest that women feel embarrassed when they let their emotions show.” More than 2,000 adults took part in the study, and over half (51 percent) said that they are a 'crier' and shed a tear at little things. To further that, it showed that crying commonly occurred for women while watching a sad TV show or movie, where as the lads would cry when thinking of a sad memory. Other reasons for both men and women are grief and anxiety. And when it comes to crying for 'no reason', well, us ladies take the top spot. When asked the question, 64 percent of ladies say there's no logic to why they sob sometimes, while only 30 percent of men said the same.
