Live music is now allowed at weddings

Good news for many today, as further Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted.

Tanaiste Leo Varadkar tweeted confirmation last Friday that the plan to lift restrictions today would go ahead, saying:  “Vaccination of under 35s really working now. Cases have plateaued / falling.  Rise in patients in hospital and ICU slowing. All ok for next stage of re-opening on Monday.”

As of today, the following restrictions no longer apply in Ireland.

Communions and Confirmations can resume.

Religious ceremonies can take place, with 50% of venue capacity, regardless of attendee’s immunity status.

Live music is now allowed at weddings.

Organised events can go ahead, at 60% capacity indoors and 75% capacity outdoors, where people are fully vaccinated OR recovered from COVID-19 in the last six months. Accompanied children under 18 don’t need vaccine passports. If attendees are not all fully vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 in the last six months, there is no change to current capacity limits for indoor events and capacity for outdoor events will be 50%.

Indoor group activities, like dance and sports classes, are allowed if everyone is fully vaccinated OR recovered from COVID-19 in the last six months. Otherwise, pods of six people are allowed. Again, accompanied children under 18 don’t need vaccine passports.

All restrictions on outdoor group activities have been removed.

Working in offices and other certain places of work can resume on a phased basis for specific business needs, from today.

Restrictions to be lifted from October 22nd

From the 22nd of October, the vast majority of remaining restrictions will be lifted subject to current public health advice, including the following:

Social distancing will no longer be required.

Limits on numbers attending events, and gatherings in private homes will be lifted.

Restrictions on religious or civil ceremonies lifted.

Vaccine passports will no longer be required to attend events or activities — not including international travel.

Restrictions on high-risk activities (eg. nightclubs) will be removed.

No masks will be required, except on public transport, shops, hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
