Ryan Tubridy has given an update about his future as host of the Late Late

Ryan Tubridy has confirmed that he'll be staying on as host of The Late Late Show for the foreseeable future.

There's almost constant speculation about who might next land the top gig in Irish TV but Ryan has said that he is "not going anywhere." It was reported earlier this year that broadcaster Claire Byrne was being lined up to take over the role.

"A woman’s never presented RTÉ’s biggest show and that has to change," a source told The Sun at the time.

"Gender equality is such a hot issue right now and our State broadcaster has to be seen to be listening.”

Speaking to the Sunday World over the weekend, Ryan said that he still loves doing the Late Late. “I have this really interesting job, that is why I am not going anywhere today or tomorrow – what a jammy gig. "It’s a great, fun gig, talking to people you have spent your life watching or listening to. “It’s intriguing meeting them in real life.” Ryan also said that he doesn't suffer from imposter syndrome in the job. “No, I’m quite entitled to be here. “I got my membership card and I earned my points. I am flying first class." He went on to reveal that he did expect his successor to be a woman. "If I was to look at potential [hosts] after me, I would say the front runners would be female. “Good luck to whoever it is, but the position is not vacant yet.”
