Six absolutely amazing women.
Over the decades Barbie has taken on many roles and transformed into some truly inspiring women.
During the pandemic, many incredible scientists banded together to help tackle Covid and now Mattel are honouring those women, as well as women in science in general with their new range of dolls.
Six women working in science have been transformed into their very own limited edition Barbie dolls.
Among the six news dolls is one of Sarah Gilbert, the co-developer of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.
While speaking to The Guardian Gilbert said having a Barbie made in her likeness is very strange but she hopes it inspires little girls to get into science;
“I am passionate about inspiring the next generation of girls into STEM careers and hope that children who see my Barbie will realize how vital careers in science are to help the world around us.
My wish is that my doll will show children careers they may not be aware of, like a vaccinologist.”

Gilbert is only one of the dolls in the new women in science range.
The other five dolls include U.S. health care workers Dr. Audrey Sue Cruz and emergency room nurse Amy O’Sullivan, Canadian doctor and advocate against systemic racism in health care Chicka Stacy Oriuwa, Brazilian biomedical researcher Dr. Jaqueline Goes de Jesus and Australian doctor and protective gown developer Kirby White.
There’s currently no mention of how much the dolls will cost but keep an eye out on the official Barbie website as they should be uploaded there soon.
