'People are concerned'.

The group have reportedly filed for permission to build a playground, a GAA and a rugby pitch.

The Scientology Centre at Firhouse in Dublin have reportedly set out plans for a 17sqm playground at the community centre in the area, according to Independent.ie.

The application was filed on January 16, however, a petition against the build has already begun online which has nearly 500 signatures.

The move has been hugely criticised by many, with one local councillor saying it’s an attempt to target young people.

“They are absolutely, without question targeting young people and families with young children,” Social Democrats councillor Carly Baily told The Times.

The councillor went on to detail a large number of events the group organised over the Christmas period that were aimed at families and especially children and said that many people are worried.

“We hear from people who are concerned but also from people who think that it’s here and it’s free so it’s fine. The point is we don’t know what it is they’re interested in.

“It’s clearly a long-term project given the amount of money invested in it.”

A spokeswoman for the Church of Scientology defended the events they organised saying that all proceeds “went to a local homeless charity and our Winter Wonderland activities”.
