9-year-old boy dies in scrambler bike accident in Ballymena

The accident occurred on Thursday, June 16th.

A 9-year-old boy has tragically died in a scrambler bike accident in Co. Antrim.

The young boy was critically injured when he was riding on one of the bikes on Thursday afternoon.

Another boy (13) involved in the accident is in a critical condition in hospital.

Both boys were driving scrambler bikes when the accident happened. It is believed their bikes collided with one another.

The incident took place in Dunclug, Ballymena at around 5 pm on June 16th.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the accident, including three emergency crews and the Air Ambulance.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service stated: “A boy aged nine has sadly passed away following a two-vehicle collision in the Dunclug area of Ballymena, the Police Service of Northern Ireland can confirm.”

“He died in hospital as a result of his injuries.”

“The collision between two bikes occurred on Thursday, 16th June at around 4.55 pm.”

A full police investigation is currently underway, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

Police are calling for witnesses to come forward. Detective Sergeant Neil Harrison said witnesses should contact the police immediately.

SDLP’s Eugene Reid paid tribute to the boys and their loved ones.

He wrote, “A serious incident has taken place tonight in the Dunclug area.”

“My thoughts and prayers are with the injured and their families. I wish them a speedy recovery.”
