The public is being asked to avoid swimming at both beaches.

Jumping into the cool Irish sea has been an absolute blessing during this heatwave. For once, we’re grateful for the chilly sea, but swimmers are now being warned to avoid two Dublin beaches.

A Do Not Swim notice has been issued for both south Strand Skerries and Burrow Beach in Sutton. It is understood that samples taken discovered a high level of bacteria in the water.

Final County Council stated: “Bathing Water Quality Results. 6 beaches were found to have Excellent water quality. 3 beaches were found to have Good water quality. Do Not Swim notices have been issued for Skerries South Strand and Burrow Beach Sutton. Next results will be available July 23rd.”

Beachgoers can still access the two beaches but have been urged not to swim in the sea.

The council stressed that the Do Not Swim notices are there to protect the public’s health.

The news comes as Ireland experienced its hottest day of the year yesterday.

Met Éireann confirmed the highest temperature of the year was recorded at Mount Dillon, Roscommon, which reached 30.8C on Wednesday.

The high-temperature warnings remain in place across Ireland until at least Friday. Temperatures are expected to exceed 30 degrees by day and remain in the 20s overnight.
