The suspect is currently being held in Sligo Garda Station.

A man in his 20s has been arrested after the discovery of a man’s body in a Sligo apartment.

According to reports, the man, aged in his 50s, suffered “significant physical injuries”.

Last night, Gardaí were called to an apartment on Connaughton Road at around 10.30 pm.

The body of a man in his 50s was discovered on arrival.

The man’s body remains at the scene, but a post-mortem is set to take place later today.

The results of the post-mortem will determine the course of the investigation.

Gardaí arrested the suspect in the early hours of the morning after “intense local Garda activity and inquiries”.

The suspect is currently being held at Sligo Garda Station.

He is being held under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

His arrest comes after the body of Mr. Aidan Moffitt was found at his home in Sligo.

Mr. Moffitt was reportedly mutilated when Gardaí found his remains.

They fear the two cases may be hate crimes motivated by homophobia.

A third man was also attacked in Sligo. He was assaulted and sadly lost his eye.

Gardaí are not sure if all three attacks are linked, but anyone with information has been asked to come forward.

They are also urging the public to be vigilant when using dating apps. They fear Mr. Moffatt met his attacker online.

Anyone with information should contact Garda in Sligo on 071 0915 7088.
