Sophie Turner has reactivated her divorce case with Joe Jonas
Sophie’s lawyers filed paperwork in Miami-Dade County, Florida, asking that the former couple’s divorce case be reactivated following the expiration of their temporary custody agreement in January.
Though it may sound like a dramatic move, a source for Joe told E! News that it’s a “legal formality,” adding, “the couple continues to negotiate an amicable resolution”.
Joe and Sophie tied the knot (for the first time) in a Las Vegas ceremony on May 1st, 2019 surrounded by their family and friends.
The former couple then decided to do it all over again and have a more traditional wedding a month later.
The pair tied the knot again at a chateau in Sarrians, in Southern France.
On September 25th, 2023, Joe filed for a divorce against Sophie after four years of marriage.
According to E! News, the Burning Up singer stated that the “marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken”.
On September 6th, the two then released a joint statement on Instagram to confirm the news, shocking fans of the couple, who up until this point, believed the relationship to be perfect.
Though singer and actress stated that the decision was mutual, things seemed to fall apart and Sophie a suit against her estranged husband for the “wrongful retention of two children … from their habitual residence of England,” according to the court document obtained by Billboard.
At the time, the 28-year-old alleged that her estranged husband, 34, had been withholding their daughters’ passports, preventing them from traveling to the the UK.
Reps for Joe did not respond for comment regarding the claim at the time.
However, after the former couple developed their co-parenting plan, Sophie’s case was dropped “on consent of the parties,” without legal fees or expenses awarded to either of them in January.
However, the former couple were unable to agree and now the Game Of Thrones star has asked the judge to end their marriage and rule on who gets custody of their daughters.
The pair chose mediation initially in an attempt to keep their marital issues private.
Now due to the involvement of a judge, the details of the separation will become public knowledge.
