Storm’s a brewin’: Expect high winds and rain folks

Sophie White

Parts of the country are on storm alert ahead of this weekend.

Storms and flooding are expected to hit the west of the country initially before heading eastwards as the day progresses.

Orange weather warnings for Connacht, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary have been issued by Met Eireann. Meanwhile, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Waterford are on a yellow weather warning with a predicted 35mm of rain expected to fall overnight.

The service went on to warn that up to 70mm of rain could fall in as little as 24 hours in worst affected areas with temperatures between 14 – 17 degrees.

A spokeswoman for Met Eireann, Joan Blackburn, told the Irish Mirror: “Heavy rain is pushing over the southwest and northwest of the country as well as some spot flooding, but it will start off looking dry in the northeast and east.”

“As you go further to the west and south, there will be some really wet conditions. There are rainfall warnings out, and the rain will start to edge east, seeing heavy rain all over the country.”
