Sweet Magnolias Season 3? Here is everything we know

Sweet Magnolias season 3

*Spoiler alerts ahead*

If you are anything like us, you binged Sweet Magnolias season 2 as soon as it dropped on Netflix a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully with a margarita in hand.

In case you’re not familiar, Sweet Magnolias is based on the romance book series of the same name by Sherryl Woods, and the show follows three best friends in Serenity, S.C., a “small southern town where everybody knows everybody and everybody knows everybody’s business,”

And boy, did season two delivery. There was love and breakups and reconciliation and deaths and births and surprise proposals and the who nine yards.

So much so, that not only did we love season 2, but we are already wondering when the heck we will be able to find out what happens next in season 3.

Especially as we were sort of left on a bit of a cliffhanger, when, in the last episode, Annie (Anneliese Judge) is approached by a furious woman at Miss Francis’ wake who confronts her about her mum Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) being a “life ruiner”, while the same person is caught on camera puncturing the tyres of Dana Sue’s van shortly after.

And then, upon witnessing this shocking footage, Annie, Maddie and Helen glared at each other before sharing these tantalising words: “She’s back…”

Now, let us be clear, Netflix has not (yet) ordered a season three of the show, but – as we know there actually 11 books in the Sweet Magnolias series (yes, the show is based loosely on Sherryl Woods’ Sweet Magnolias books series), we can assume the writers of the show also have more in store for us.

What do we know about Sweet Magnolias season 3?

Season two ended with several dramas brewing. Helen was proposed to by Ryan – made complicated by the fact that she is now in a relationship with the lovely Erik. And we also get to see Maddie and Cal’s union get a little rocky after Cal gets into a brawl with a superfan and is subsequently arrested – making Maddie wonder if she really knows Cal all that well.

Oh, and then there is Isaac, who has been looking for his birth mother, only to find out that it is Peggy, the local newspaper editor – who is equally shocked when she realises who Isaac is and that he has come to find her after all these years. And it gets more complicated – certainly after it is revealed that Isaac’s father is no other than Bill Townsend – you know, Maddie’s ex-husband.

Yep, things are going to get real interesting in season three as we will no doubt find out what happens next for our Sweet Magnolias Maddie, Dana-Sue and Helen.

And what about that villain whose arrival back in Serenity is alluded to in the last episode?

“I will just say she has a past in common with our ladies and some other folks in town,” showrunner Sheryl J Anderson told TVLine of the mysterious figure.

“She’s been away for a while, but she has come back with an agenda. She has come home to settle some scores.”

Speaking about a possible season three, Anderson also revealed that she is keen to explore Noreen’s story now that she and Bill’s baby has been born.

She also said that season three could end up delving into the aftermath of Cal no longer being coach – you know, following his shocking arrest in the season two finale.

As for cast, Anderson has pretty much confirmed that our main ladies, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Heather Headley and Brooke Elliot, will undoubtedly return for a third season – and that we can also expect to see Chris Medlan return as Isaac, Jamie Lynn Spears as Noreen, Dion Johnstone as Erik and Michael Shenefelt as Ryan.

Oh – this will be good – bring on the margaritas!
