Teachers have revealed the strangest end-of-year gifts they’ve ever received

Olivia Hayes

Most of us will buy our child’s teacher an end-of-year gift.

Whether it be a pen, a notebook, a box of chocolates, or a bottle of wine, they all seem to be run-of-the-mill, simple gifts to say thank you for putting up with our crazy kids during the school year!

However, now teachers have revealed the strangest gifts they’ve ever received… and we’re just wondering why on earth any parent or guardian would give these things as presents!

According to a recent survey, these were the top top weirdest gifts:

  • A bag of potatoes
  • Jewellery “which I’m sure was stolen for me”
  • A regifted reed diffuser from the Christmas raffle (“I know because I’d put the raffle ticket on it”)
  • An opened, part-drunk bottle of wine
  • A “Plan Your Wedding” book (“I was in no way close to getting married”)
  • A thong
  • A stolen car radio in a carrier bag
  • A box of half-eaten chocolates
  • Lube
  • Aftershave (“I’m female”)

See? Very strange indeed.

Most teachers who answered the survey said that they would actually prefer something cost-free.

64 percent said that they would love a personal note from their students, while 57 percent said they’d love a little note from parents too.

However, 68 percent said that they worry about kids being left out in case parents can’t afford to give a gift.
