A 16-year-old boy has admitted to killing Urantsetseg Tserendorj.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has admitted to the killing of the 48-year-old in Dublin city centre last year.
RTÉ News reports that he pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter. The 16-year-old, who was 14 at the time of the incident, also pleaded guilty to using a knife to attempt to rob Ms. Tserendorj while she was walking home from work near the IFSC.
The trial for murder will begin on Wednesday and is expected to last up to eight days. Up to 20 witnesses are due to be called during the proceedings.
Urantsetseg was killed while walking home from work on January 29, 2021. A mass was held in her memory in January of 2022, almost one year after her passing.
At the time, former Dublin Lord Mayor Hazel Chu paid tribute to Urantsetseg, saying: “She was a cleaner walking home from work. I brought some flowers today to the location where the tragedy occurred and had to ask a friend where best to place them.
“It was yet another depressing sign of how little it was featured & how we tend to forget. We shouldn’t forget. Not her, not the hundreds of other women.
“Remember how they died and how they shouldn’t have. Remember their names.”
