A tragic accident.

A 15-year-old girl died after sustaining serious injuries during a training session at an equestrian centre Rathcoole, Co Dublin, yesterday afternoon.

Last night, Gardaí confirmed that officers from Ballyfermot responded to a call from the centre around 2 PM yesterday afternoon, following an accident involving a teenager during a training session.

“Dublin Fire Brigade and the National Ambulance Service were in attendance and providing medical assistance to a young female (15 years) who was injured during an exercise event. She was removed to Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) at Crumlin where she later passed away,” gardaí said in a statement.

The gardaí also confirmed that the Health and Safety Authority will carry out an examination tomorrow, and that officials from Horse Sport Ireland, the governing body for equestrian sport in Ireland, are expected to release a statement on the tragedy in due course.

According to the Independent, investigations into the tragedy are ongoing, and the gardaí stated that a file will be prepared for the Coroners Court.
