The Teletubbies Are Twenty Years Old And You Won’t Believe Who’s Joined The Cast!

Alison Bough

Hard to believe but it has been twenty years since the original series of Teletubbies first appeared on our screens. Ok, we feel REALLY old.

It has been announced that children’s author, actor, comedian and all-round good egg David Walliams will be the latest star to join the voice cast of the hit series.

Walliams joins an already impressive cast including Jim Broadbent, Fearne Cotton, and Jane Horrocks who are lending their voices to the Teletubbies’ distinctive and much-loved ‘Voice Trumpets’. Walliams will feature in the second series, which will air this spring.

David says he’s pretty excited about his new role:

“It’s really thrilling to be asked to take part in Teletubbies, it’s such an iconic show and it’s watched all around the world by millions and millions of children, it was just too good a thing to turn down.”

In addition to showcasing the star’s vocals, the new series will introduce a number of new features including an area of Teletubbyland called the Hidey Hup – a beautiful hidden glade containing equipment for physical Teletubby fun including the Tubby Bouncy, Tubby Slidey, Tubby Uppy Downy and the Tubby Spinny.

Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po will also have a brand new way of getting around in their new ‘honk honk’ Tubby Car and there is a new signature song for the adorable and intrepid little Tiddlytubbies (Mi-Mi, Daa Daa, Baa, Ping, RuRu, Nin, Duggle Dee and Umby Pumby).

Bosses plan to produce sixty more episodes of the iconic show for CBeebies, making a total of 120 episodes across two series.

Prepare yourselves Mamas, spring is coming.
