The institute is located in the suburb of Neder-Over-Hembeek and is the facility is used to carry out forensic investigations in criminal cases. In March three coordinated suicide bombings rocked Brussels: two at Brussels Airport in Zaventem and one at Maalbeek metro station in central Brussels, killing 32 people. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks and it was later confirmed that the same terrorist cell had planned the Paris attacks in November 2015, in which 130 people died. Investigations into this morning's explosion continue and no suspects or motivation have been ascertained as of yet.
