The Happy Pear apologise over “dangerous” breast cancer video

Kat O'Connor

“Trust medicine, not two random lads with zero medical training.”

The Happy Pear have issued an apology after they claimed a vegan diet could prevent breast cancer.

They said they never intended on upsetting anyone.

However, people are not happy with their “apology”.

In a video, which has since been deleted, the brothers share advice on how to prevent breast cancer.

“Here’s five things to reduce your risk; aim for a healthy body weight, eat mostly whole-food, plant-based.

“Aim for eight to 13 fruit and veg portions per day; reduce alcohol consumption, avoid smoking, and move regularly.

“Eat mushrooms – reduces your risk of breast cancer, east soy products two to three times per day.”

The public and medical experts called out the brothers over the careless video.

Many stressed that the brothers had no right to share medical advice because they’re influencers and not doctors.

Having a large Instagram following doesn’t give you the right to share medical advice, especially when it isn’t correct.

Dr. David Robert called the brothers out over the “factually wrong” video.

He commented, “Diet & cancer is complicated, and modifiable risk from diet less than you might think. Not helpful when wellness “influencers” like Happy pear implicitly blame breast cancer on diet, needlessly shames patients.”

Women also slated the pair for giving medical advice to women when they’re not qualified to do so.

One wrote, “As a breast cancer survivor I don’t need more guilt piled on. Trust medicine, not two random lads with zero medical training.”

Another added, “The lack of awareness and education from The Happy Pear is just staggering. Spreading cancer misinformation despite being factually debunked by scientists, doctors & cancer charities.”
