This enigma, cloaked in mystery and wrapped up in impossibility was presented to a class of Vietnamese 8-year-olds and subsequently posted to VN Express.
To solve the problem one must place a number between 1 and 9 in each box to complete the equation.
Easy, right? Eh, wrong. The class teacher, Tran Phuong, told VN Express that he sent to the problem to several people who held degrees in economics and mathematics who have yet to respond. Phuong says that to complete the conundrum one must first multiply, then divide, then add and then subtract. There are 362 880 possible permutations of numbers for the blank boxes but only a few correct answers.
