Watch: Baby Chair Video Has Been Viewed More Than 10 Million(!) Times

Trine Jensen-Burke

It’s pretty hard to grasp how a video of a baby not doing much of anything — no funny faces or cute babbling or dancing or whatever — could garner more than 10 million views on Facebook.

And yet that is precisely what happened with this 30-second clip of a newborn baby boy resting on a rather funny looking baby chair.

The device, known as Babocush,  was created to help “busy parents by providing a way to keep their newborn feeling held even when they’re not.” As in; you know how newborn babies would rather just be held All. The. Time and have little regard for the fact that you have to cook dinner or pee or wash your hair? Well, this product will help you with that – by tricking your baby into thinking he is being held – all the while you have your hands free to get on with what you need to be doing.

The Babocush is designed to hug the baby securely in the traditional over-the-shoulder-against-the-chest position — ideal placement for reducing colic and reflux — and thanks to a dial for soothing vibrations and calming heartbeat sounds, it’s almost like the real thing.

Shut the front door. Where was this when my little girl was brand new?!

Many might be skeptical of such a unique baby bouncer: especially as any advice on preventing SIDS states that you should always put babies on their backs. But according to Babocush’s creator, Kerry Nevins, the device is not intended to replace a crib or cot, but more as an alternative to carry them around to settle them.

“When your baby just won’t settle in the rocker, bouncer or play mat, the Babocush offers an alternative option,” Co. Down-based Nevins says on her site. “Tummy down, face to the side, relaxing against the soft cover, you can relax and know that your baby will be comforted and settled, giving you peace and time to relax.”

The Babocush retails for £99 from the website.

What do YOU think, mamas? Could you have done with one one these for your little ones? Or did you have other ways to settle them when they were fussy? Let us know in the comments or send me an e-mail at Trine.Jensen@Herfamily.ie
