This granny just got the best Christmas present ever

Trine Jensen-Burke

We are an emotional lot at Christmas time. I have (so far) today cried at The Snowman, a Skype call from my sister and my two-year-old attempting to sing Happy Birthday to his big sister, who turns six today. (Also cried at the fact that my baby girl is six, by the way.)

So you can imagine the water works that just happened when I watched this video of an American grandmother meeting her adopted granddaughter for the very first time. *sobs.

To Eva Goeb, finding out the her son and his wife were coming home for the holidays was the best gift anyone could have given her – until she saw him cradling a new baby in her doorway.

Donny and Miranda Goeb were a dual Air Force family until recently, when Miranda retired with the hopes of starting a family. The couple relocated to Pearl Habor, Hawaii, and immediately began figuring out their options for domestic adoption. Much to their amazement, the adoption process moved pretty quickly, and adopted their daughter, Melissa Faith, from a fellow Air Force member that Donny had been deployed with.

To highlight how fast things went; the Goebs found out they would be parents on Nov. 12,  met the birth mother on Nov. 25 and then Lily was born on Dec. 8. Phew.

In an effort to spare their hearts, and those of their family members, the couple kept the fact that the adoption was happening a total secret until everything was official and Lily was in their arms. And to avoid having to shares something so amazing over the phone, Donny decided they should just surprise their families for Christmas instead.

“We hid our secret for almost 10 days before we could fly home,” Miranda told a local TV station about their big holiday reveal. “Neither of our families thought we were coming home for Christmas, let alone bringing a baby,” she added. “They were shocked, enamored, in awe and in love simultaneously.”

Just see (and weep!) for yourselves:
