Thousands of families and children were turned away from GamerCon yesterday

Thousands of families and young children were forced to queue in the rain for long periods before being turned away from GamerCon yesterday.

There were chaotic scenes at Dublin’s Convention Centre yesterday as thousands of families were forced to wait to gain entrance to the gaming convention ‘GamerCon’. After queuing in bad weather conditions for extended periods, many were then turned away.

It now appears that tickets for the event, which is also scheduled to take place today, were substantially over-sold. Approximately 25,000 tickets were sold for the two day gaming convention, but the Dublin venue can only hold 7,000 people at one time for health and safety reasons.

Many disappointed attendees and parents took to Twitter to express their anger at yesterday’s turn of events:

Event organisers released a statement saying that they “underestimated the traffic flow” and offered a full refund to those affected,

“As a first time event we underestimated the traffic flow that we forecast for the event and have very strict health and safety related capacities which we must adhere to.

That temporarily impacted our ability to process the queue which resulted in longer than expected wait time for our attendees. We are managing this proactively and expect the situation to ease as the day progresses.

We have offered full refunds to those who decide not to attend and have communicated this to attendees via mobile app and all social media channels.”
