It feels like all we’ve been talking about all week is the lack of bins and toilets in Dublin.
Big changes are coming this weekend in Dublin’s fair city as extra bins and toilets are being brought in to facilitate the “outdoor summer”.
The initiative for more bins and portaloos has been welcomed by the Lord Mayor of Dublin Hazel Chu and comes after viral videos of South William Street saw an abundance of litter left last weekend.
The Lord Mayor says she is “delighted” that these facilities are on the way for the bank holiday weekend and hopes they can benefit the public more.
Dublin City Council has confirmed that 150 portaloo toilets, 54 large Eurobins and 80 Barrel Bins will be placed across the city centre, with a specific focus on high footfall areas.
Just got a confirmation from Recovery Task Force manager: 150 Portaloo toilets, 54 large Eurobins and 80 Barrel Bins across the City from this weekend with a specific focus on high footfall areas in the City Centre!

Councillor Chu said that the toilets will be open from 10am to 11pm daily. On the northside of the city, you will find them at Wolfe Tone Square, Central median on O’Connell Street, Smithfield – south end, Royal Canal, Mountjoy Square and Diamond Park.
On the southside, you can find them located at Sycamore Street, Temple Bar Square, Chatham Row, South King Street, Coppinger Row, Dame Court, Dame Lane and Merrion Square.
Earlier this week, Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan showed concern over the crowds in the city centre, despite the government encouraging an outdoor summer.
Dr Tony warned that “not all outdoor activities are safe.”
Areas that have been blocked off in the city centre are expected to remain that way, with the bandstand in St. Stephen’s Green closed until further notice due to “vandalism” and the Portobello plaza to remain closed until June 11.
