“It was a reflex”: I laughed in my friend’s face when she told me her baby’s name

Some baby names can be a little bit out there.

But we just have to smile and nod and agree that they're beautiful. The last thing you should do is laugh in the new mum's face. However, one woman did just that when her friend revealed her baby's unusual name. When visiting her friend and their newborn in hospital, the friend finally found out the child's name. And it's safe to say she was less than impressed. She explained to Reddit that her friend kept the baby's sex and name under wraps. They wanted it to be a surprise. And it certainly was. The new mum decided to call her child English. "At the hospital, we find out she had a baby boy. As she's cradling him, she says: 'You guys, this is English.' "I couldn't help it at that moment. It was like a reflex. I laughed. She looked up at me and I knew she was serious." The new mum was obviously hurt by her friend's reaction, but she said she couldn't help it. "I tried to make small talk about the labour and whatnot, but I couldn't wait to get out of there," she said. The friend explained she didn't mean to hurt or offend her, but couldn't help her reaction. The name is pretty out there to be fair to her. "Right after we left, my friend told me I was a jerk and should have apologised. I do feel bad, but I don't think I was being a jerk. At least that certainly wasn't my intention."
