How late is too late to change your baby’s name?

HerFamily

It’s a great feeling when you pick out the perfect name for your baby. But what if you come to regret your decision a few months down the line?

This exact situation happened to two new parents, who had named their son after the mother’s dad.

The woman’s husband wrote on Reddit about the unfortunate situation.

According to him, his wife had resented her father while growing up as he had cheated on her mother. However, he worked to repair his relationship with his daughter and regained her trust.

Her husband wrote: “In her family, it’s typically tradition for the first grandson and granddaughter to be named after their grandparents and my wife was proud to name our son after her father.”

But, five months after the birth of their son, his wife and her father had a falling out.

They were discussing her second pregnancy, which was unplanned. She confided in her father and told him how scared she was to welcome another baby so soon.

However, her father went on to voice his own concerns about her marriage.

“He thinks we got married too young and I’ll get bored of her now that she’s devoting all her time to our son,” the husband said.

Sadly, she miscarried days after the argument with her father. She has also refused to call their son by his name due to the connection with her father.

Her husband wrote: “She said she needs time to get over the argument with her dad, but she also blames him for the miscarriage which is something I don’t think she’ll get over.

“My father-in-law has made no attempts to apologise or reconcile.”

The couple have now began the process of changing their son’s name, as it’s too upsetting given the family rift.

While the rest of the family believe they’re making a big deal out of the situation, the couple are adamant that this is the only way to move forward.

What do you think – should they change their son’s name, or is it too late to take the gesture back?
