Two five-month-old triplets found dead after ‘tragic accident’ at home

Tragic news this evening.

Police are treating as a tragic accident the deaths of two five-month-old babies in Wales today.

The two triplets, both boys, were found not to be breathing, though the third triplet was perfectly healthy.

“At 10.05am emergency services attended an address in the Wildmill area of Bridgend to a report of two young children, two of triplets, who were found not breathing,” said a spokesman for the South Wales Police.

The babies were rushed away in an ambulance but were pronounced dead at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend a short time later.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the deaths which are being treated as a tragic accident,” the spokesman added.

“This is a particularly sensitive incident, which is still ongoing.”

The police are seeking to protect the privacy of the family at this time.

A post mortem will be carried out on the two infants’ bodies to determine their cause of death and a file will be prepared for the local coroner.

It is believed that the babies may have fallen victim to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), commonly known as cot death.

An inquest into the deaths is expected to begin next week.
