A newborn baby girl has been found abandoned in a skip in Patong, a Thai holiday resort.
Authorities are looking for the infant’s mother after a man, who had been searching for empty bottles in the garbage, discovered the baby wrapped in a white blanket amid the rubbish.
The Telegraph reports that an emergency responder, Yotwaris Rittisikikul told local media:
“We were alerted to the presence of the baby by a person who was was scrounging through the trash at about 1 am.”
“She is very cute. She was not even crying, just smiling at me. She was wrapped in a white blanket and looks like a healthy baby.”
The baby’s umbilical cord had been removed and after further examination in Patong Hospital, she was found to be a fit and healthy baby.
Authorities believe the baby’s mother abandoned her because of financial issues.
“She may have decided to abandon the child because she had no income to support a baby.”
Police continue to search for the parents in the hopes of shedding some light on the situation.
