Police have confirmed the body discovered yesterday evening is the missing British school girl Amber Peat.

Amber left her home in Bosworth Street, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire in the UK at approximately 5.30pm on Saturday after an argument with her mother and stepfather.

Police have confirmed that they are not treating the death as suspicious and that a ruling of death by suicide has been made.

In a statement made by Superintendent Matthew McFarlane, he said that Amber was discovered by two police officers searching an area less than a mile from her home. Mr MacFarlane told the British press that Amber’s body was out of sight and would not have been seen by anyone nearby.

He added: “Sadly this was not the outcome that any of us were hoping for. Amber’s mum and stepdad, Kelly and Danny, would like to say that they were particularly touched by the amazing support they received from the community.”

The family had just returned from a holiday to Cornwall, Amber’s devastated parents, Kelly and Danny Peat, released a brief statement:

“She was never happier than when reading to her younger sisters and being surrounded by her family. We will always be grateful for our last family holiday with our beautiful daughter. We will always miss her.”

Tributes line the lane close to where Amber was discovered. One message from a school friend read:

“I hope your parents find the strength to find peace.” And continued: “Hope the angels make you smile.”
