Use public transport? The cash fare increases came in today

HerFamily

If you commute to work or use public transport to get into town to do the weekly shop, you may notice less change in your purse.

That’s because, from today, cash fares for certain services – including Dublin Bus, DART and the Luas – have increased.

Those who use money on Dublin Bus will see a 15 cent increase for the 4-13 stop band while one, seven and 30-day tickets for the Luas will rise by up to 4%.

Commuters are warned that there could also be increases on Irish Rail and Bus Éireann services.

According to RTÉ News, Minister for Transport Paschal Donohoe said that the increases were “significantly less” than previous hikes.

It is believed that the revised fares will push those who use public transport towards the Leap Card system – you top it up with cash and in return get lower fares across a number of services.

We know we certainly couldn’t live without ours!
