Video Reveals What Toddlers Go For First When Safety Locks Are Removed

Sharyn Hayden

As much as we would all love to have the perfect, stylish home that is clean, Instagram-worthy and untouched by grubby hands… we don’t.

Ok, I’m joking. I would much rather have my crazy, happy, loving kids than a perfect home – I really would!

Part of the parenting deal is the giving over of your home, and that means removing delicate possessions to high shelves or locked-away presses and cabinets.

Child safety is paramount when kids are small and don’t yet understand the dangers of sharp knives, corners and household detergents.

As an experiment, this American family took the plunge and removed all the child safety locks in their home to see precisely what their 15-month-old son Jagger would get into.

You can watch it here:

No major surprises when he goes straight for the dishwasher, right?

We all know the dangers of children consuming dishwasher tablets, not to mention what would happen if they got their little hands on a sharp knife.

Other household dangers mentioned to keep under lock and key are mouthwash, which contains a high level of alcohol, and button batteries which once consumed, can burn the oesophagus.

I think we’ll be doubling up on our safety locks, stat!
