Weather Warnings In Place As Heavy Rain And Wind Set To Batter The Country

Wrap up, guys, it’s a bad one out there today.

As Ireland is waking up to a very wet and windy day, forecasters warn it is the tail end of Storm Jonas, which left 19 people dead in the US over the weekend, bringing us this latest bout of rain and windy weather.

There are currently several weather warnings in place according to Met Éireann, and a Status Yellow Weather Advisory was issued for Wexford, Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford last night, with fresh gale warnings updated today.

On top of this, a Status Yellow rainfall warning has also been issued for West Munster, Connacht and Donegal, with rainfall of up to 40mm expected in places, with a Status Orange marine warning also in effect, with gale force winds on all coasts of Ireland and the Irish Sea.

The gardaí and local authorities are advising people to stat extra vigilant when out today, especially in areas where flooding can be expected.

Throughout the morning wind speeds of up to 60 the 65km/h can be expected, with warnings that the winds could reach even higher in coastal areas.

As the rain is set to ease off towards the evening tonight, mild temperatures of up to 13 C can be expected, although forecasters warn that the weather will stay unstable all the way up towards the weekend.
