Why every child needs this colouring book…

Sophie White

Last week we brought you the top five colouring books for adults. Publishers have reported a renewed interest among adults in colouring, which is said to combat anxiety and sooth stress.

Now, Seattle-based feminist writer, Ijeoma Oluo, has designed a colouring book of powerful women and their quotes aimed at young and old colouring enthusiasts called the Badass Feminist Colouring Book with the equally badass tagline of:

“You’re never too old for colouring books & you’re never too young for feminism.”

Olua told the Huffington Post:

“I really want to communicate how diverse feminism is and must be in order to create lasting and effective positive change…I wanted to shine a light on feminists that you may never have heard of… I want people to see the beauty in feminism, not a conventional beauty that often hurts women, but a beauty that comes from strength, resilience, kindness and empathy. Also, I really just want to give this to my feminist friends, as a celebration of community and solidarity.”

Oluo’s kickstarter campaign, which closes on 14 July, has already raised more than double its original goal of $4,000.

“I wanted to make something that was inspirational, interactive, and conversational,” Oluo said. “We can celebrate and enjoy feminism. It’s a very serious topic, but it’s also beautiful, fun, creative and inspiring.”

We say pass the crayons.
