Wiggle Ball baby toy recalled in UK over choking concerns

It was recalled in the US and Canada last week.

Toys”R”Us in the UK has recalled a baby toy amidst fears that it could be a choking hazard.

The retailer has removed the Bruin Infant Wiggle Ball from sale online after the toy caused controversy in North America.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission ordered a recall of the Wiggle Ball, a plastic ball that wiggles, vibrates and plays three different tunes, last week.

It came after reports that knobs on the outside of the ball had come off some toys, with four reports of pieces found in children’s mouths.

The plastic back on the ball could also become detached, the CPSC said.

Almost 30,000 units of the toy were recalled in the US and a further 3,000 in Canada.

Toys”R”Us in the UK confirmed that it has asked customers to stop using the toy.

“This item is now off sale and we ask customers who have bought this item to return it to a Babies”R”Us or Toys”R”Us for a full refund,” a spokesperson said.

The news comes in the wake of several children’s product recalls.

Tesco Ireland recently asked customers to return its crystal light-up jewellery kits to store after a product fault was identified.

Meanwhile, Playtex recalled a number of kids’  plates and bowls in Canada last week over concerns that the graphics printed on them could peel off and become a choking hazard.
