Woman sues hospital claiming she was given a C-section without anaesthesia

This is horrific!

A woman in the States is suing the hospital where she gave birth after she says she was given a C-Section without any form of pain relief.

The mum from California said that she was cut open before any anesthesia was administered.

According to court documents, the patient Delphina Mota and her fiancé, Paul Iheanachor, arrived at the Tri-City Medical Center in California prepared to be induced as  Ms Mota was overdue and more than 41 weeks pregnant.

But some time after arriving at the hospital doctors became concerned as they could no longer pick up the baby’s heartbeat and the couple’s main physician, Sandra Lopez, called for an emergency C-section.

Ms Mota told Buzzfeed News that she saw the doctor rub something on her stomach and then she felt an incision.

“I started screaming and I remember passing out. They had to hold me down because my whole body was feeling this pain.”

Court documents containing Lopez’s post-operative report, show the doctor describing how she made the incision without anesthesia and separated Mota’s abdomen muscles to reach her uterus before the anesthesiologist, walked into the room.

I had to have an emergency section on my son and it was traumatic enough without everything that this mum went through. One of my biggest fears is being able to feel surgery while it’s happening and I feel physically ill reading Ms Mota’s ordeal.

The couple are seeking $5.75 million but the Tri-City Medical Center released a statement refuting the couple’s claims:

“Patient safety and quality are the utmost priorities for Tri-City Medical Center and all of our partners.”

They also claim Mota was administered anesthesia prior to surgery, despite both the doctor’s report and couple’s claims to the contradicting this statement.

While emergency sections need to be performed as quickly as possible, to perform one before the mother has received pain relief is shocking.

So many more complications could have a risen from Ms Mota’s body being put through that kind of stress including massive blood loss.

The couple’s daughter is now seven months old and the case is currently ongoing, but if what Ms Mota and her doctor have said is true the hospital could be looking at paying out a lot for this heinous error on their part.
