Legendary Actor John Hurt Dies Aged 77 – J.K. Rowling Leads The Tributes

Sad news today, the veteran actor John Hurt has died after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. 

The Oscar-nominated star is known for his stellar roles as the wand called Mr Ollivander in the Harry Potter films, his role in The Field alongside Richard Harris, Alien and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Midnight Express, and probably the most memorable as The Elephant Man.

 

Hurt was nominated for two Academy Awards, for Midnight Express and The Elephant Man, he also won four Bafta Awards,

The actor, known for his fondness of Ireland and the Irish people lived here for several years.

He passed on Wednesday this week and has been working on a number of projects set for release this year. His most recently role in the biopic of President John F. Kennedy’s widow, Jackie, is currently on show in cinemas.

Twitter has been lively with tribute tweets flooding in today for the actor who touched so many with his acting prowess. He is survived by his wife Anwen Rees-Myers, and two sons Alexander and Nick.
