Mum shares simple trick to keep her baby sleeping while she showers
"Parenting level 100 unlocked."
One mum has come up with a creative way to have a quick shower and a coffee break while her newborn daughter naps - and parents are loving it.
The trick was shared on the Facebook page, Baby Hints and Tips. The photo shows a baby sleeping soundly, with an inflated rubber glove placed across her stomach.
The idea being the simple trick is that the little girl will still believe her mum is holding her as she sleeps, which will let her keep dozing peacefully.
In the caption for the original post, the mum explains:
"Going on for 20 minutes now and she hasn't realised. She will crack it when she wakes up but for now I actually get to finish my coffee!"
The post has since gone viral, getting more than 10,000 comments and 3,500 shares - with parents hailing the trick as "genius".
"I should've seen this eight months ago," one mum lamented.
Meanwhile, another one added:
"Totes need to do this! My arm can't take much more of this."
Someone else commented:
"Letting you in on a secret here... I may or may not have done this (cloth gardening gloves are nicer)."
The mum and author of the original post has been identified as Melissa Dykstra, according to news.com.au.
She explained to the publication that her one-month-old daughter, Olivia, "just looked a little confused" when she woke up - and that the trick had given her enough time to finish her coffee while it was still hot.
"It gave me enough time for a shower and to finish my coffee while it was still hot.
"I did sit with her and she wasn't upset when she woke up, just looked a little confused.
"She's going through her first 'leap' (in her mental development) so she's been extra clingy the last few days and makes it so hard to even go to the bathroom so I thought I'd try it."
